FCA Australia Pty Ltd — 2011-2014 (LX) Chrysler 300 and 2012-2014 (WK) Jeep Grand Cherokee

By brad | Jeep recalls | 0 comment | 12 September, 2017 | 0

Product description2011-2014 (LX) Chrysler 300 and 2012-2014 (WK) Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPS) and 180 AMP Alternator and 220 AMP Alternator.

What are the defects? The alternator of the affected models may experience diode thermal fatigue due to cyclical loads induced by the electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPS).

What are the hazards? If the diodes fail, the alternator will no longer supply electrical energy to the vehicle. This may lead to the vehicle stalling without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

Failed diodes may also develop a resistive short circuit that can result in heat, smoke and/or fire originating within the alternator.

What should consumers do?FCA Australia will notify owners of affected vehicles who can then schedule a service booking with their nearest Chrysler Jeep Dodge service centre who will carry out the repairs.

What are the defects? The steering wheel wire harness may become trapped between a tab on the steering wheel plastic back cover and the edge of the horn plate.

What are the hazards? This may cause the edge of the horn plate to rub through the wire insulation, creating an electrical short circuit which could cause the driver airbag to deploy, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury to vehicle occupants.

What should consumers do?FCA Australia will notify owners of affected vehicles who can then schedule a service booking with their nearest authorised Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealer. The dealer will inspect the steering wheel harness and repair or replace if needed at no cost to the owner.
